The Cuban regime executed this morning the eviction of the former minister Alejandro Gil Fernández's home in the Playa municipality of Havana, as part of the accessory sanctions from his life sentence.
However, concurrently, as this editorial team learned, the authorities returned to the family a second home in Santos Suárez that had been closed for three years.
María Victoria Gil, sister of the former official and resident in Spain, confirmed both facts in exclusive statements to CiberCuba from Morocco, where she was traveling.
"However, they were returned the house in Santo Suárez (Johnson 160), which had been closed for three years and was full of dust, and they are currently moving in," confirmed the sister of the ousted Minister of Economy and Planning and right hand of the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, who was the advisor for his doctoral thesis.
The eviction operation in Playa began "around seven in the morning," according to sources consulted by Cubanet, at the house located on 24th Street between 1st and 3rd.
In the property resided Gil Fernández's wife, his daughter Laura María Gil, a small granddaughter named Ana Paula, and the son-in-law. At least two trucks were parked in front of the property to move the family's belongings.
Agents deployed in the vicinity prevented local residents from recording or taking photographs of the operation, according to testimonies gathered by Cubanet.
The vacated residence in Playa is a two-story house with a garage, garden, and finishes that are well above the Cuban housing standard, located in the Miramar neighborhood, one of the most sought-after residential areas of the capital.
The other aspect of the operation was the restitution of the house at Johnson 160, in Santos Suárez, which María Victoria Gil had legally donated to her niece Laura María Gil. The court had classified that transfer as a "fictitious donation," but ultimately the legality of the act was recognized.
"In the ruling, they stated that it was a fictitious donation, which is a great lie," declared María Victoria Gil to CiberCuba.
The house in Santos Suárez had been closed and abandoned for three years. The youngest granddaughter, Ana Paula, arrived at the property with a cold due to the conditions of the place, according to the sister of the former minister.
Despite the circumstances, María Victoria Gil described the situation with resignation: «They are not happy but they are content».
They were returned the family home, it was proven that it was completely legal, and they had to respect it, he added.
The eviction is a direct consequence of the ruling by the People’s Supreme Court (TSP), which sentenced Alejandro Gil to life in prison for espionage on December 8, 2025, and to an additional 20 years for bribery, influence peddling, tax evasion, and document forgery.
On January 24th, the TSP rejected the appeals submitted by the defense, upholding the sentence along with the additional penalties of asset confiscation.
After the ruling was announced, María Victoria Gil warned that the seizure of properties would leave her niece "literally on the street," and had denounced the regime's cruelty against the family since the beginning of the process.
So far, the regime has not issued any official statement regarding the fate of the family members evicted from Playa or whether that property will immediately come under state control.
Maria Victoria Gil, who is returning to Spain this Thursday, concluded her message with a phrase that summarizes the family's situation: «It was proven to be a completely legal and legitimate donation, and they had to respect it».
