The Cuban influencer Fiu Fiu (real name Rayner Tamayo) posted a video on TikTok from the municipality of Regla last Monday, showcasing the total destruction of a farmer's market that, according to him, had existed "for a lifetime" in that neighborhood of Havana.
In the images, the content creator walks through the completely dilapidated facilities and delivers a direct critique of the regime: "Look at this, an agromarket that we have had here in Regla for a lifetime. Look at how this market is. Just see how everything is destroyed. If there is nothing left of Cuba, all that's left is the sorrow of the Castros, which is all they have left here."
The video, lasting 35 seconds, concludes with a phrase that encapsulates the accumulated pain: "The sadness of the Castros. Nothing is as it was before. Children cry from hunger, the elderly cry from need." In the end, upon reading a sign that prohibits littering, Fiu Fiu finishes with a direct insult aimed at Miguel Díaz-Canel.
The testimony carries special weight because Fiu Fiu is a Cuban emigrant residing in Miami who traveled through Latin America under extreme conditions, even living on the streets during his journey through Guyana until he reached the United States.
Just weeks before publishing this video, the influencer had signed the documents to buy his first house in Miami, achieving what he described as the "American dream." In March, he participated in the reality show "El Desorden de Marko," presenting himself as "the voice of a country that cries" and broke down in tears while discussing the humanitarian crisis in Cuba.
The municipality of Regla, where the video was filmed, has been experiencing years of collapse in basic services. In October 2025, locals blocked streets with buckets after 30 days without water, and the government only responded by sending water trucks hours after the protest. In August of the same year, a collapse in Regla left a girl injured and several others hurt.
The video was published on the same day that media reported extreme prices in the market at 19 and B in Havana due to widespread shortages. The agromarkets in Cuba are facing a structural crisis: the government attempted to control prices with Resolution 148/2025 without success, and multiple markets have been left empty or abandoned in various provinces.
In December 2025, a resident of Regla had already publicly denounced arbitrary blackouts, a lack of medications, and the accumulation of garbage, accusing Díaz-Canel of systematic neglect of the municipality.
The description that Fiu Fiu chose to accompany the video summarizes in three words what the images show: "So sad, my people."
