The Cuban singer El Micha revealed this Wednesday, in an interview with the program Destino Talk, that he was diagnosed with prediabetes after years of accumulated stress from attacks on social media and pressures from the music industry in Miami.

The 44-year-old musician indicated that this condition explains the noticeable weight loss that worried his followers and sparked rumors about his health in recent days.

In Miami, there was speculation that he was suffering from cancer or a sexually transmitted disease. "Death was right next to me. I was worse than bad," he admitted candidly.

El Micha, with two decades of artistic career, described how the symptoms arrived quietly.

"I would fall asleep like that on the sofa at two or three in the afternoon, watching anything. I looked in the mirror and saw that I was losing weight," he recounted.

For a while, he convinced himself that it was just the result of a bad dream or stress, until he went to the doctor.

He said to me, "Thank God you’re here, because my blood sugar was really high." He confessed, "I ended up pre-diabetic because of the stress; it caused that."

In his worst moments, the artist acknowledged behaviors that reflected his critical emotional state. "I felt like sometimes I didn't want to go home, I would stop at any gas station. I would have three or four beers, even though I'm not really someone who drinks for pleasure," he said.

He came to fear, in his own words, "waking up drunk at a gas station" or suffering "an overdose," and he cited the cases of colleagues like El Tiger —deceased— and Chocolate —imprisoned— as examples of Cuban artists who fell during their worst moments due to bullying and stress.

It was in this context that El Micha decided to return to Cuba, a move that sparked strong criticism within the Cuban community in Miami, where some members of the exile community labeled him as "communist."

The artist explained that the trip was an act of survival. "I healed thanks to Cuba. The love I missed for three years," he stated. "You can take me out of Cuba, give me a tour, but don't take Cuba out of me. That is my home."

El Micha also acknowledged having acted poorly by leaving Miami abruptly without properly informing his family.

"I behaved like a coward. I withdrew, I said I can't take this anymore," he admitted, and apologized to the mother of his children.

Last week, Ana María Daniel publicly spoke in his defense through a video on Instagram, stating that El Micha "is the father of my children."

Both were together for 14 years and have two children together; the separation was confirmed in September 2025, although they maintain a friendship for the sake of the children.

Regarding his career, the artist is currently working on the songs "Tu culpa," "Culpa mía" —alongside Dylan— and "Daylena" —with El Zurdo—, and he has decided to refrain from performing in Miami for the time being. "Until I feel better, I don't want to sing in Miami," he stated. The incident that took place on the Mega TV program in September 2024, when he left the set in the midst of a discussion about Cuba, marked the beginning of his public distancing.

"If you are not happy, you don't make anyone else happy," was the message with which El Micha concluded the interview, the first time he openly discussed his diagnosis and the crisis that nearly cost him much more than just his health.
