A Cuban emigrant returned to the island as a surprise after four years of separation and captured on video the heart-wrenching reunion with her mother, who ran out upon seeing her daughter hidden in a van and embraced her in a flood of screams and tears at the entrance of the house.

"Back to see my family after four years. Surprise for my mom," wrote the protagonist, identified as @laisyleni9788, in the description of the clip published last Tuesday on TikTok under the hashtag #surprisevisitstoCuba.

The video, lasting one minute and 23 seconds, captures the exact moment when the mother spots her daughter and reacts by running towards her.

The exclamations captured in the audio summarize the intensity of the moment: "oh my dear daughter, oh my dear, oh my girl, oh my girl, my God, my God, my God."

The reunion, which had the support of other family members or friends identified as @Leniertattoo and @Ailyn, touched the hearts of thousands of users in just a few days.

The video amassed 379,700 views, 24,600 likes, and 863 comments, figures that reflect the immense connection this type of content generates among the Cuban diaspora.

The clip was released two days after Mother's Day and adds to a wave of surprise reunions that went viral around that date.

Last Sunday, Cuban Ray Obón Séne surprised his mother after four years without hugging her and generated thousands of views with a phrase that captures the feelings of many emigrants: "My mom couldn't believe that after four years I was going to hug her again."

On Wednesday, May 7, another Cuban arrived shouting "Mama!" and his video surpassed 407,100 views, while on Saturday the 10th, a reunion left a Cuban grandfather in shock for 30 minutes.

In February, a mother fainted upon seeing her daughter return as a surprise in the Los Pinos neighborhood, in Arroyo Naranjo, Havana.

These videos are the human reflection of the largest migratory exodus in the history of Cuba since the Revolution.

Between 2021 and 2024, approximately 1.79 million Cubans left the island, according to estimates by demographer Juan Carlos Albizu-Campos, which reduced the population from 11 million in 2020 to less than 9.75 million by the end of 2024, according to the National Office of Statistics and Information.

38% of Cuban households have at least one member who has emigrated, a reality that turns each reunion into a collective testimony of the pain left by decades of dictatorship, with social media becoming the primary stage for this narrative.

The last words heard in the video from @laisyleni9788 say it all: "Oh my life, my God, mother."
