The Cuban singer Were (@dicelo_werehh), a prominent figure in the Havana urban and reggaeton scene, publicly announced his admission to a rehabilitation center this Wednesday via his Instagram account, where he revealed that the decision was made after experiencing a relapse in drug use.
In a message divided into several images, the artist from the neighborhood of San Leopoldo in Havana wrote: "My people, I want to share something very personal with you. After a relapse, my family, my team, and I have made the decision to admit me for rehabilitation. It hasn't been easy to accept, but I understood that asking for help is also an act of bravery."
He acknowledged that the path ahead will be difficult, but he expressed his belief that he will overcome it: "I know a tough road lies ahead for both me and those who love me. But I have faith that I will push through and come back stronger than ever."
In another part of the same statement, the singer delivered a direct message to his followers based on his own experience: "No to drugs. Seriously. They can destroy everything: life, family, dreams."
The artist also announced that during his hospitalization, his team will manage his social media, and he asked his fans to support him by listening to his music: "Every stream, every share gives me strength to know you're there. When I return, I will come back stronger. With more music, more energy, and a greater desire to give you the best of me."
The post garnered nearly 9,000 likes and over 857 comments within hours, receiving an overwhelming wave of support from colleagues in the Cuban artistic community. The singer Yulien Oviedo responded: "You can do it, bro, keep going." The rapper Zurdo MC wrote: "Ashe and blessings, my king, you got this." The artist Dany Ome also left words of encouragement, as did dozens of followers.
"Yes, you can, and I am the example. Stay strong and rebuild yourself as many times as necessary," encouraged Flor de Cuba.
Were himself included a phrase in the post description that sums up his attitude towards the process: "It's not a goodbye, it's a... SEE YOU SOON."
The case of Were is not the first within the Cuban rap and reggaeton scene related to addictions. Lenier Mesa publicly spoke about his struggle against drugs in November 2025, when he stated that he had been "almost a year and a half clean" after acknowledging that he was close to losing his family. El Taiger, an influential figure in the genre, struggled with drug problems and depression until his death in October 2024.
Reparto is a subgenre of urban music that emerged in Cuba around 2007, with a strong presence in popular neighborhoods of Havana like San Leopoldo, which is the hometown of Were, and to which the artist pays constant homage in his lyrics and messages, always signing as "Lo Mejor de San Leopoldo."
