A fire was reported this morning at the facilities of the Provincial Transport Company of Las Tunas, according to the Provincial Government of the People's Power of Las Tunas via its institutional profiles.

The Fire Department intervened swiftly and completely extinguished the blaze. Authorities confirmed that there were no impacts on human life.

The official informative note states that "so far, the causes that may have led to the event are being investigated, as well as the assessment of the material damages incurred," and that "the relevant authorities are carrying out the necessary technical actions."

The images published alongside the statement show a two-story building with thick black smoke billowing from the windows and entrance, while a red fire truck with hoses deployed was parked in front of the structure.

The incident occurs during a nearly total collapse of public transportation in the province. For this year, almost all interprovincial bus departures from Las Tunas had been suspended, with only one nighttime service to Havana remaining.

Nationwide, state passenger transportation in Cuba dropped by 93% between January and September 2025, a decline mainly attributed to the shortage of diesel fuel and the energy crisis affecting the island.

The fire on Wednesday adds to a series of incidents that have affected transportation facilities and Cuban state-owned companies in recent months.

In May 2025, a fire at the Ómnibus Nacionales base in Camagüey destroyed three interprovincial vehicles without causing any casualties.

In February 2025, a fire at the Mulgoba Bus Terminal in Boyeros, Havana, burned several vehicles.

In February 2026, a fire impacted the Ñico López refinery in Havana, which was brought under control the same day, with no fatalities or injuries.

Analysts point out that the deterioration of state infrastructure, lack of maintenance, and the energy crisis are factors that increase the vulnerability of Cuban facilities to this type of disaster.

The provincial government promised to keep the public informed: "As the investigative process progresses and official information becomes available, we will inform the people through our institutional profiles."
