Four Cuban citizens have been linked to a legal process in Cancun, Quintana Roo, accused of distributing marijuana through Facebook, reported the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) after presenting the relevant evidence before a control judge.

According to information from local media, the accused, identified as Edilberto "N", Nicolás "N", Pablo "N", and Hans "N", were detained on Boulevard Puerto Cancún during an operation stemming from investigations conducted by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Fight against Drug Dealing.

According to the judicial authority, Edilberto "N" and Nicolás "N" will face charges for supplying cannabis sativa L., while Pablo "N" and Hans "N" were charged with possession of the same substance for delivery purposes.

According to the investigations, the four Cubans used Facebook to coordinate the sale and distribution of drugs, a method increasingly employed by groups engaged in drug dealing to reach customers and finalize deliveries through private messages, thereby making it more difficult to detect their activities.

However, the investigations are not limited to drug trafficking. The Prosecutor's Office noted that there are lines of inquiry suggesting possible involvement of the accused in robberies and extortions through what is known as “cobro de piso,” primarily in the Hotel Zone of Cancun, one of Mexico's major tourist destinations.

Given the seriousness of the accusations, the judge ordered justified preventive detention for the four defendants for the duration of the judicial proceedings.

The case could be part of a larger criminal structure. A report from the media Informado Caribe stated that those detained would be part of a criminal organization primarily composed of Cuban citizens that has been operating in Cancun for several months. The publication also claimed that more than 17 people allegedly linked to that group have been arrested in recent weeks, although this information has not been officially confirmed by the state prosecutor's office.

The arrests are taking place amid a series of operations against alleged drug trafficking networks involving Cuban citizens. On June 1, four more nationals from the island —identified as Osiel "N", Enrique "N", Rubén "N", and Luis "N"— were linked to proceedings for offenses related to the sale of marijuana in Supermanzana 23 of Cancun.

Months earlier, in January, Mexican authorities arrested Remigio "N", a Cuban national identified as a member of a Cuban-American criminal cell allegedly connected to the Sinaloa Cartel, engaged in drug trafficking and distribution.

The background also dates back to 2024. In August of that year, three Cubans were arrested for drug dealing during an operation in Cancún, while in July, 17 Cubans and three Venezuelans were arrested in Pachuca, Hidalgo, where authorities seized 100 doses of crystal and 83 of marijuana.

According to the principle of presumption of innocence, the four defendants shall be considered innocent until a final judgment is made determining their criminal liability.
