The Cuban diplomat, Johana Tablada de la Torre, publicly lashed out again at the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, with an extensive message on social media in which she described him as a man "sick with ambition, complex, and hatred".
True to the crass script of what is referred to as "revolutionary diplomacy," the ambassador and deputy head of mission in Mexico launched an offensive to discredit the recent State Department report that presents the Cuban regime as a threat to U.S. national security.
In a post filled with political and personal attacks, Tablada compared the creation of the report to a fictional narrative. "Like Scheherazade with the Sultan, each day is a new fictional story to convince the boss to maintain and tighten the criminal siege against Cuba," he wrote, referring to the document released by Washington.
The diplomat stated that the report is part of a strategy to portray Cuba as a nonexistent threat and to serve the internal political interests of the U.S. administration. She claimed that the goal would be to strengthen the narrative promoted by Donald Trump and Marco Rubio in a context she described as unfavorable for their electoral interests.
Tablada also rejected one of the main arguments presented in the report: the influence of the Cuban regime over leftist movements and political organizations in the United States and other countries. In his view, attributing progressive activism to an operation directed from Havana is "a profound act of contempt" towards those who defend those political positions.
The most aggressive part of her message was directed squarely at Rubio. In addition to claiming that he is "sick with ambition, complex, and hatred," the official asserted that the Secretary of State "has lied throughout his political career for his personal benefit and that of his sponsors" and accused him of using Cuba as a recurring argument to justify his policies.
This is not the first time Tablada has targeted Rubio as the main focus of his public statements.
In recent months, he has been accused of being responsible for the mass migration of Cubans to the United States, for "extorting" Trump during the impeachment of 2019, and has labeled him "ignorant," "paper tiger," "the true incompetent, "coward," and "liar."
The new publication maintains that personal confrontational tone, although it raises the stakes with new disparagements aimed at the head of U.S. diplomacy.
In his new publication, Tablada also held Rubio responsible for promoting a foreign policy that he labeled "reactionary" and linked him to the war in Gaza, the actions of U.S. authorities in response to pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University, and the reorganization of USAID, which he presented as a tool to promote regime change and disinformation operations.
The diplomat concluded by stating that Rubio has never cared about the suffering of the Cuban people or the humanitarian consequences of conflicts like those in Gaza and Iran, and she urged not to forget his political actions.
The statements come just days after the publication of the State Department's report on Cuba, in which Washington asserts that the regime has conducted espionage operations, infiltration, and subversion against the United States for over six decades, and maintains connections with political influence networks in various countries.
Since the release of the document, the main figures of the regime have reacted with an intense discursive offensive. The Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla called the report a "libelous pamphlet" and accused Rubio of seeking a pretext for aggression against Cuba, while Miguel Díaz-Canel called him "corrupt," linked him to drug traffickers and accused him of attempting to restrict civil liberties in the United States.
