The Cuban regime is allocating construction resources to restore the Historical Complex of Birán, in the municipality of Cueto, Holguín, in preparation for the centenary of the birth of Fidel Castro, which will be commemorated on August 13, according to the state agency ACN, reported this Monday.
According to the report from the official media, the Engineering Works Construction Company 17 (Ingeco) is carrying out repairs on the sewer system and drainage systems, rehabilitation of access roads, technical solutions for bridges, and the construction of a new parking area for visitors.
Among the most significant interventions is the reconstruction of the barracks for Haitian workers and the repair of the family house, where structural damages were corrected, according to Arturo Santiesteban Reyes, director of Ingeco, in a statement to ACN.
The complex will also undergo the restoration of the orange grove, which includes the installation of an irrigation system and a photovoltaic project, with the participation of the Design and Engineering Services Company Vértice.
The contrast with the reality that millions of Cubans face is hard to ignore.
The housing deficit in Cuba exceeds 929,000 homes, and in 2025 only 5,493 units were completed, a decline of 26% compared to the previous year.

The Cuban economy has experienced a decline of 15% since 2020, with a contraction of 5% alone in 2025, and projections for this year indicate setbacks between 6.5% and 7.2%, according to data collected by Infobae.

The year 2026 was officially proclaimed "Year of the Centennial of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz" following a proposal approved by the National Assembly on December 20, 2025, with a celebration program extending until December 4, 2026.
The central event of the centenary is scheduled to take place precisely in Birán on August 13, the date when Castro would have turned 100 years old, while the State mobilizes materials and labor to beautify the site that most Cubans cannot afford for their own homes.
