The spokesperson for the State Department, Tommy Pigott, stated this Monday that many leftist groups linked to the Cuban regime proudly display that relationship, and that a significant portion of the evidence gathered in the official report comes from the statements and public declarations of those organizations themselves.
"Many of these groups are remarkably proud of their association with the Cuban regime. Much of what is cited in this report comes from their own press releases, their own comments. They are astonishingly proud of it," stated Pigott to the press.
The statements are made in the context of the report “Cuba: The Capital of 21st Century Communism”, a document of approximately 100 pages presented on July 20 by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which accuses the Havana regime of having supported radical leftist movements both inside and outside of the United States for decades.
Pigott described Cuba as the "link and node" of transnational leftist extremism, and noted that Havana has transferred tens of thousands of far-left activists to the island over the decades through what he referred to as "revolutionary tourism."
"Havana has attracted tens of thousands of leftist extremists over the decades, engaging in what they call revolutionary tourism, which demonstrates that the Cuban regime acts as a link and node for so many far-left groups," stated the spokesperson.
The report explicitly mentions organizations such as Code Pink, The People's Forum, BreakThrough News, Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, Antifa, and the National Lawyers Guild, among others.
Pigott also linked these revelations to the Ministerial Conference on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism, held on July 16 at the State Department with delegations from over 60 countries.
In that forum, Rubio argued that extreme left political terrorism is responsible for more plots and anti-government attacks in the United States than any other ideology.
"Extreme left political terrorism is now on par with jihadist terrorism in terms of attacks in Europe," warned Pigott, who emphasized that Washington takes the matter "very seriously."
The State Department has already designated four violent far-left groups as Foreign Terrorist Organizations and Specially Designated Global Terrorists, with more designations under review.
The Cuban regime rejected the report, labeling it a "slanderous pamphlet" and denounced a "neo-McCarthyism" from Washington. The foreign minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla led the official response, rejecting the accusations of supporting extremist groups.
The reaction of some international left-wing figures, such as the Spanish Pablo Iglesias, who boasted about appearing in the report, precisely reinforced Pigott's central argument: that these groups do not conceal but rather celebrate their closeness to Havana.
"We are taking this seriously and we are transparently outlining to the American people, in this report, the exact links we are observing," the spokesperson concluded.
