A new ambulance was attacked with stones while transporting a patient to the hospital in Cárdenas, Matanzas. The vehicle was passing in front of La Verbena when unknown individuals threw stones and broke several of its windows.
The activist and content creator Christian Arbolaez informed this Thursday on Facebook that the attack occurred during the night of last Sunday and that so far the individuals responsible have not been identified.
Arbolaez explained that the ambulance was part of a group of new vehicles that had arrived in Cárdenas about four months ago, amid a serious shortage of resources to handle medical emergencies.
The publication did not specify how many windows were damaged, whether anyone was injured, or if the ambulance had to be temporarily taken out of service following the attack.
A broken ambulance does not harm a leader or the Government. It directly harms the people, warned the activist, who reminded that the vehicle can be crucial for transporting an elderly person, an accident victim, a pregnant woman, or any patient in need of urgent care.
The activist recalled the precarious situation in which healthcare personnel operate: "They already have enough to deal with facing each day in deteriorating hospitals and clinics, often working with minimal resources, without someone else also dedicating themselves to destroying the few conditions that do exist."
"Criticizing what is wrong is necessary. Destroying an ambulance that could save anyone's life tomorrow is to harm each other," he concluded.
The attack adds to other acts of vandalism against transportation in Cuba. In April 2024, several public buses were stoned while carrying out their regular routes in Havana, causing damage to the windows and to the driver's cabin of one of the buses.
Violence against service vehicles continued in March 2025, when a bus on the P7 route was stoned in the Havana municipality of Cotorro. This incident brought the number of similar reported cases to four within a few weeks.
Stone-throwing incidents have also impacted railway transportation. In July 2025, unknown individuals threw stones at a train stopped at the Alquízar station in Artemisa, damaging the window of one of the passenger cars.
