The Deputy Foreign Minister assures that history will remember Fidel "for his immense contribution": "Contrary to Marco Rubio and his administration."

The Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío came to the defense of Fidel Castro and stated that history will remember him for his "", while contrasting his figure with that of the United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, amidst the exchange of messages regarding the centenary of the deceased dictator.

Fernández de Cossío made his statements this Friday in a Facebook post, where he offered a wholly laudatory view of Castro's legacy and criticized Rubio and the current U.S. administration. 

"Unlike Marco Rubio and his government, history will remember Fidel Castro for his immense contribution as an extraordinary leader of a patriotic, rebellious, and supportive people," affirmed the diplomat.

Fernández de Cossío attributed to Castro a positive influence on "millions of people" from the most disadvantaged sectors of the so-called Third World and stated that he contributed to peace, fought apartheid, opposed racism, and defended the sovereignty and integration of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The deputy chancellor practically used each of those accolades to draw a comparison with Washington. He stated that Castro sought "a better world", while accusing the United States of trying to impose an "illegitimate superiority" over the rest of the world.

The Secretary of State described the former leader as "a complete failure," except, he said, in destroying Cuba and impoverishing, imprisoning, and killing his own population.

It also warned those who intend to imitate its model that they could end up doomed to the same failure.

Fernández de Cossío avoided directly responding to those accusations of political repression and economic deterioration.

Instead, he championed Castro's international role and presented his legacy from the historical narrative that the Cuban government has promoted for decades.

Fernández de Cossío's message comes just a day after he made renewed strong accusations against the United States.

On Thursday, it accused Washington of "negligence or complicity" with networks dedicated to the irregular trafficking of Cuban migrants, although it did not present evidence to demonstrate a decision by U.S. authorities to deliberately protect these operations.
