The Cuban singer Eduardo Antonio, known as El Divo de Placetas, made an emotional gesture this weekend by attending a performance of Oficialmente Gay 4 in Miami and symbolically crowning Alexis Valdés as the "king of theater" in the city, in a moment that brought the audience to their feet and was captured in a video shared on Instagram.
The clip shows Eduardo Antonio taking the stage at the Teatro Trail on Calle Ocho in Miami to place a crown on Valdés amid the applause and cheers from the audience. "I came to crown you king of theatre in Miami," proclaimed the singer born in Placetas, Villa Clara.
The moment went beyond a mere symbolic gesture. Addressing the audience, the performer took the opportunity to make a personal statement: “I am proud of who I am, of being a maximalist, of being true to myself, of believing in what I want, because I feel it and I love it, of being officially gay. Of being an artist from head to toe, and of being a brave, privileged man.”
Eduardo Antonio, who was recognized as an LGBTQI+ icon in October 2025, maintains a public stance of pride and visibility within the community.
The singer arrives at this moment with a busy public agenda: in May, he was eliminated from La Casa de los Famosos 6 on Telemundo as the eleventh evicted, and in mid-August, he celebrated the purchase of a mansion in Miami alongside his husband, businessman Roy García.
Officially Gay 4, the fourth installment of the saga that Valdés began in 2014, is being presented at the Teatro Trail - located at 3715 SW 8th Street, Coral Gables - featuring a cast that includes Yubran Luna, Lieter Ledesma, Omar Franco, Geo Martínez, and Claudia Valdés. The play is rated for audiences 18 and older and has a duration of two hours with an intermission.
The Officially Gay saga has accumulated over 500,000 viewers across its editions, according to statements from Claudia Valdés, making it one of the biggest successes of Cuban theater in Miami since its debut over a decade ago.
