The average price of regular gasoline in Florida rose three cents during the last week of August, marking the end of a period of relative calm for drivers in the state, according to the weekly report from AAA – The Auto Club Group.
The state average stood at $3.89 per gallon this Monday, although the increase does not completely disrupt the stability that characterized the summer: over the last 45 days, the price had fluctuated around $3.92 per gallon, remaining within a narrow range despite the volatility of the global energy market.
"Drivers have witnessed fluctuations in gasoline prices throughout the summer, but the overall trend has been relatively stable," noted Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA – The Auto Club Group.
Jenkins added that "drivers are coming to Labor Day with fuel costs that are generally in line with what they have been paying all summer."
However, the comparison with the previous year tells a different story.
The current average exceeds 81 cents the $3.08 per gallon that Florida drivers were paying during the same period in 2025, which amounts to about $12 more for each fill-up of a 15-gallon tank.
The south of Florida records the highest prices in the state. Monroe County, in the Keys, leads with $4.16 per gallon, followed by Palm Beach County at $4.05, Broward at $3.93, and Miami-Dade at $3.91.
Among metropolitan markets, West Palm Beach-Boca Raton tops the list at $4.06 per gallon, followed by Gainesville ($3.97) and Naples ($3.95).
On the opposite end, the cities in the Panhandle offer the lowest prices: Panama City ($3.69), Pensacola ($3.70), and Crestview-Fort Walton Beach ($3.72).
The national average for regular gasoline in the United States stood at $4.08 per gallon, higher than the average in Florida.
The context of the global energy market partly explains the pressure on prices: Brent crude averaged $91.15 per barrel in August, up from $83.76 in July, a monthly increase of 8.82%.
This summer stability contrasts with the peaks recorded in early 2026. In May, the state average reached $4.34 per gallon after rising 40 cents in just one week, and in April Miami Beach surpassed the $5 per gallon mark.
Despite the year-on-year increase in prices, AAA does not anticipate that fuel costs will discourage travel during the holiday weekend, which is one of the busiest traffic periods of the year in the country.
