ETECSA reported this Wednesday technical problems with the SMS service in Cuba, an issue that also temporarily took Transfermóvil offline, one of the country's main electronic payment platforms.

"We inform you that due to technical difficulties, the service for sending and receiving messages via SMS is affected," the state-owned company announced on its social media.

The problem had an immediate impact on Transfermóvil, whose operation relies on notifications that arrive on phones via text messages.

"This causes #Transfermóvil to be suspended due to the lack of notifications," ETECSA explained.

The company assured that its specialists are working to restore services "in the shortest time possible" and urged users to stay updated through their official channels.

The incident adds to other issues reported by the company in recent weeks.

On August 17, a fiber optic cut affected the system that manages Nauta service payments, causing difficulties in recharging, transferring balances between accounts, and paying for Nauta Hogar.

Two weeks earlier, on August 3rd, a malfunction caused interruptions in cellular service nationwide.

ETECSA attributed the problem to a breakdown of the generator that supported one of the main centers of the mobile network, affecting numbers beginning with 52, 509, 598, and 599.
