A Cuban artistic decorator based in Houston set out to pay tribute to Flor de Cuba by carving her likeness into a melon, but the result sparked a storm of laughter on TikTok: comments suggested that the sculpture resembled La Diosa more. What began as an emotional gesture ended up becoming one of the funniest videos in the Cuban exiled community in weeks.
The account @arteysabor_houston, specializing in 3D cakes and fruit tables for events, published the first video featuring a monologue about overcoming challenges dedicated to the Holguin influencer: "Flor de Cuba, hated by many and loved by others... turning every criticism into strength." The video garnered nearly 48,400 views, but the comment section took an unexpected turn. "She made a mistake because she resembled La Diosa," wrote one user. "She looks more like La Diosa than Flor," another pointed out. The popular verdict was unanimous.
Far from ignoring the joke, the artist decided to take on the challenge with an honesty that the audience appreciated. "It looks more like La Diosa. That was the most repeated comment about the melon sculpture I made for the flower of Cuba, so I'm fulfilling their wish and now I'm going to recreate La Diosa, because they don't have anything to do with each other and they don't look alike at all," she explained at the beginning of the second video, titled "Recreating La Diosa of Cuba in a Melon."
The result was explosive. The new video surpassed 367,200 views, accumulated 12,500 likes, and nearly a thousand shares, becoming the most viral content on the account. The comments poured in, overflowing with humor.
The most liked post, with 515 reactions, was from a user who attached an image of the monster Sweetums from the Muppets along with the text: "I was afraid of him as a child, and now you've reminded me." In second place, with 420 likes, was: "Girl, they're going to sue you haha." Another person commented: "By second 12, she is the goddess." And someone added: "As soon as you started to shape her mouth, I knew she was the Goddess."
There were no shortage of creative comparisons. A user with 54 likes confessed, “I liked it, but I see more resemblance to the tree from Pocahontas.” Another person came to the artist's defense with impeccable reasoning: “Gentlemen, it’s a melon; the art is there, it’s about finding a similarity, not creating an exact replica.”
Not everything was jokes: several followers defended the talent of the creator. "She has won numerous awards in artistic decoration and participated in the summit of presidents as a decorator," wrote one person in the comments. The account already had a viral precedent: in July 2025, she carved the face of the singer Oniel Bebeshito in a watermelon as a tribute during his concert in Houston.
Flor de Cuba, who arrived in the U.S. with just 200 dollars and became one of the leading sellers on TikTok Shop globally, and La Diosa, an urban singer known for her unfiltered personality, are two of the most recognized figures in the Cuban diaspora.
