The Cuban makeup artist and comedian @carlos_makeup_comedy shared on TikTok his experience undergoing a smile design in Cuba, showcasing the before and after of the procedure with the carefree humor that defines his content.
In the video published on Monday, the creator narrates how he chose "Doctor Darién" for the treatment, whom he describes as his most trusted dentist: "I chose Doctor Darién to perform this procedure, and I have complete confidence in him because he is the doctor who has extracted the most cavities from me."
The professional also practices in Valencia, Venezuela, but the creator took advantage of his stay in Cuba to get the work done: "I had to take the opportunity that he's here because he also does this work in Valencia, Venezuela, but I can't coordinate with him there."
The procedure took eight hours in the dental chair, a duration that reflects the true complexity of a complete smile design.
Regarding the outcome, the creator was clear about his aesthetic preferences: "It was obvious that I was not going to choose a fluorescent white, and he wouldn’t allow me to," opting for a natural tone instead.
In his usual comedic style, he teased the outcome with a warning to his followers: "It's up to you who you choose for your smile makeover; if you didn't like me without teeth, just wait and see."
The video is part of a growing trend among Cubans who document their experiences with cosmetic dentistry procedures on social media, with results ranging from success stories to cautionary tales.
In November 2025, a Cuban recounted a negative experience after getting a resin smile makeover that ended up damaging her natural teeth.
More recently, in mid-August, another Cuban ended up in emergency care after undergoing the same procedure, with a companion warning that her teeth did not require it.
Smile design can include resin or porcelain veneers, whitening, gum adjustments, and digital simulations beforehand. Among the risks of a poorly planned procedure are dental sensitivity, irreversible enamel wear, and, in severe cases, the need for root canal treatment.
In Cuba, dental aesthetic services are available both in institutions within the healthcare system and in private practices, and it is common for professionals to combine their work on the island with employment in other countries.
The creator's video, which has already accumulated more than 75,000 views, has reignited among his followers the debate about the secrets behind perfect smiles and the care that this type of treatment requires.
