Report that a man broke into her house in Havana in the early morning: "I don't know what he was looking for there."

A resident of Vedado in Havana turned to Facebook to seek community assistance after discovering that a stranger had infiltrated the backyard of his home in the early hours of the morning, as shown in the video he posted on that social network.

Alejandro Zertucha described the incident in his post: "This individual entered my house at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, in Vedado. Any information would be helpful, please contact me privately."

The images, captured by a home security camera, show a person in a green shirt and dark pants moving around the yard. The low resolution of the images makes it difficult to identify the man, which is why Zertucha reached out to the community to see if anyone recognizes him.

In the video, you can see how the man carefully searched the yard, even underneath the parked vehicle. Then, he climbed a wall and vanished. The homeowner was surprised by this behavior and stated: “I don’t know what that man was looking for there, under the car.”

The case adds to other recent reports of thefts and break-ins at homes and businesses in Vedado. At the beginning of September, a camera captured a young man breaking into the restaurant-bar La Mixóloga, located on L Street between 19 and 21, at 6:49 a.m. The public report also requested help in identifying him.

In August, neighbors on 27th Street between N and O detained an alleged thief who had snatched a cell phone from a resident of the neighborhood. In June, two alleged thieves entered a house on 6th Street and reportedly stole mobile phones while the occupants were at home.

In the face of perceived impunity and the slow response from law enforcement, Cubans have turned to social media as their primary tool for community surveillance.
