A new shipment of 200 containers with solar systems donated by China has arrived in Cuba as part of a project aimed at supplying electricity to homes and public centers located in remote areas of the island.
The announcement was made by Hua Xin, the Ambassador of China in Cuba, who explained in a post on X that the shipment corresponds to a new batch of 5,000 solar systems primarily intended for homes and certain public centers.
According to Hua, the equipment will enable the provision of electricity to public centers and homes located in remote areas, at a time when the country continues to seek to expand the use of renewable sources in light of the persistent issues with its electrical system.
"China is supporting Cuba's energy transition and accompanying its efforts to improve the living conditions of the people with concrete actions," affirmed the ambassador.
The shipment is part of an energy cooperation that has intensified in recent years and constitutes a new demonstration of China's economic and energy support for the Cuban government.
In August, Cuban and Chinese authorities announced a new project of 5,000 photovoltaic systems aimed primarily at isolated rural homes and certain public services.
The Embassy of China then reported on the delivery of the first batch of materials corresponding to that project, at a ceremony held in Havana with the participation of representatives from both governments.
However, Chinese cooperation in solar energy did not begin with this equipment.
In 2023, a donation exceeding 114 million dollars was announced for the installation of 22 photovoltaic parks in 10 Cuban provinces, as part of the plans to increase the contribution of renewable sources to electricity generation.
