Cuban actor, presenter, and producer Ricardo Becerra launched scathing criticisms against Miami International Airport, claiming he encountered dirt, mistreatment, and workers more focused on their phones than on attending to travelers.
«Family, I am at Miami International Airport and it’s impressive how this airport looks, how dirty it is, the mistreatment of people, it’s truly astonishing,» Becerra stated in a video posted on his Facebook profile.
The artist, who has been residing in Miami since 2014 after a long period in Spain, stated that the situation is far from the image that, in his opinion, one of the main airports in South Florida should present.
"They call it 'aeropuerco' around here, and I can attest to that. It's an international 'aeropuerco' in Miami, and it says a lot about us as a city," he stated.
Becerra also questioned the attention of the staff, describing them as "preoccupied with their mobile phones," and compared his experience to arriving "at an airport in a third-world country."
"I really don't know who is to blame, but whoever it is should take responsibility, because this is terrible," he claimed.
The Cuban's visit coincided with a significant police operation due to reports of gunfire at the airport, part of which was captured in his video.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, a 31-year-old man fired four shots from a parking lot toward the terminal. Three bullets struck a metal trash can, and one hit the windshield of an unoccupied vehicle. Authorities reported that there were no injuries and no active threat to the public.
Critiques regarding the condition of the facilities are not new. In August 2025, Cubans Imaray Ulloa and Fabián Fontaine reported leaks, issues with the internal train, and long waits for gate assignments.
Months earlier, another Cuban went viral on TikTok by stating that “that airport in Miami is disgusting”, after encountering broken escalators and closed restrooms.
Miami International Airport, managed by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, is engaged in an extensive modernization program that includes improvements to terminals, restrooms, and transportation systems.
Becerra, also known for his project feeding stray animals in Miami—especially cats and birds—closed his video by asking his followers if they had experienced similar situations: "Let me know in the comments if you share my opinion, if you have been around here, or if it's just that I formed this impression today."
