The Cuban regime will raise the price of passports for individuals over 16 years old to 200 dollars or euros when processed at its consulates abroad, an increase of 20 dollars or euros compared to the fee set in 2023.
The new price is outlined in the Resolution 37/2026 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), signed by the Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, which will come into effect on October 1.
The fee of 200 dollars or euros will apply to new passport applications, renewals, or replacements for individuals over 16 years old, valid for ten years.
For individuals under 16 years old, the document will cost 160 dollars or euros and will be valid for five years, while the provisional passport is set at 120 dollars or euros.
The new fee represents an increase of 20 dollars or euros compared to the price set in July 2023, when the adult passport costs 180 dollars or euros and its validity was extended to ten years.
The MINREX has now justified the update by citing "the complex current international macroeconomic landscape, marked by sustained global inflation affecting all sectors of the economy."
The change comes months after the Director General of Consular Affairs and Cubans Residing Abroad, Ana Teresita González, stated in January that "no modifications to the current fees have been approved," amid the confusion caused at that time by new regulations regarding immigration services.
That regulation maintained the established fee of 5,625 pesos for obtaining a passport and indicated among its objectives the collection of income in foreign currency through certain services.
The increase in passport fees is part of a broader review of the consular fees that will affect numerous procedures carried out by Cubans residing abroad starting in October.
Among them are the documents from the Civil Registry, academic certifications, and the procedure for renouncing Cuban citizenship, the complete process of which can reach 1,000 dollars or euros.
In the eurozone countries, fees will be charged in euros. In other countries, consulates will apply the amounts in US dollars or their equivalent in local currency, in accordance with the rates authorized by MINREX.
Resolution 37/2026 also establishes that services requested outside of regular hours or during non-working days will be subject to double the corresponding fee, except for the exceptions provided for itinerant consulates.
The regulation nullifies Resolution 116 from October 15, 2025, and will take effect in Cuban consular offices starting next month.
