Aleida Guevara March, daughter of Ernesto «Che» Guevara and a regular figure in Cuban regime propaganda, arrived in Brussels on Monday to participate in the forum "Cuba Yes, Blockade No," organized by the Group The Left in the European Parliament, according to the official site of Cuban diplomatic missions.
The Cuban ambassador in Belgium, Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, welcomed her at the airport alongside members of the diplomatic mission and described her schedule as "an intensive program" from the very first day of the visit.
The forum is scheduled for this Wednesday, September 30, and Thursday, October 1, with a public action led by Guevara March planned for noon on Thursday at the European Parliament headquarters.
The visit comes just twelve days after that same institution approved a harsh urgent resolution on Cuba with 374 votes in favor, 198 against, and 19 abstentions, demanding the immediate release of Félix Navarro and his daughter Saylí Navarro, calling for individual sanctions against those responsible for the repression —including Miguel Díaz-Canel— and threatening to suspend the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba if there are no democratic advancements.
In the resolution approved on September 17, the Europarliament recorded the figure of 1,339 political prisoners in Cuba, including 155 women, 38 minors, and dozens of individuals with serious illnesses.
While Guevara March defends before European parliamentarians the narrative that the embargo is the cause of the island's troubles, Cuba is experiencing one of its worst energy crises in 2026: at least eight total blackouts of the national electrical system so far this year, generation deficits that have exceeded 2,400 MW, and outages of up to 87 consecutive hours in some provinces.
The group The Left, organizer of the event, represents the pro-regime minority within the European Parliament, in contrast to the majority stance of the institution, which in April 2024 decided to bar the entry of representatives of the regime to its premises.
Guevara March's schedule in Brussels also included meetings with the Cuban embassy staff and with representatives of the Workers' Party of Belgium at the headquarters of that organization.
This is not the first time Dr. Guevara March has been involved in controversial episodes in Europe.
In January of this year, she was confronted by Cuban activists in Seville at the conclusion of the IV International Meeting Europe for Cuba. In August, she described private entrepreneurship as "a small cancer within our society," a statement that sparked responses from activists and public figures in Cuba.
In March, she appeared with a veil on International Women's Day while publicly defending Hamas. Then in August 2025, she was also spotted shopping at markets operating in dollars, in clear contradiction to her public stance against the market and the private sector.
