Aleida Guevara appeared with a veil over her head during an interview broadcasted on March 8, International Women’s Day, on the channel Al-Mayadeen in Spanish, a media outlet close to the political axis of Iran and Hezbollah.

During the conversation, the daughter of the Argentine guerrilla fighter Ernesto “Che” Guevara and one of the most visible defenders of the Cuban regime's discourse in international forums, openly defended armed organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah - considered "terrorist" by much of the international community - comparing them to revolutionary guerrillas.

The scene garnered special attention due to the contrast between the message and the context of 8M, a global day dedicated to advocating for women's rights.

While appearing with her head covered and speaking about armed resistance, the Cuban pediatrician expressed her sympathies for organizations and governments linked to political Islam—such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran—that have been highlighted by international human rights organizations for imposing severe restrictions on women's freedoms, ranging from limitations on their public participation to social and legal norms that subordinate their role in political and social life.

During the interview with journalist Alex Zálico, Guevara defended the logic of guerrilla warfare and directly equated these groups with revolutionary fighters.

"Guerrilla is what Hezbollah is, what Hamas is," he stated while describing them as men and women who fight, attack, and return to their shelters to re-engage in combat.

The daughter of "Che" also appealed to classic symbols of Cuban revolutionary rhetoric and referenced an old guerrilla anthem to exalt armed resistance. “We must continue to fight, we can never give in to this enemy”, she said in a message directed to the peoples of Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran.

At another point in the speech, he reiterated the slogan attributed to his father against the United States: “You cannot give an inch to Yankee imperialism,” and added that neither should concessions be made to Israel.

Al-Mayadeen, the channel that aired the interview, is known for its editorial line that is aligned with Iran and allied movements in the Middle East, where Guevara once again defended armed struggle as a legitimate tool of political resistance.
