The Directorate of Identification, Immigration, and Foreigners (DIIE) of the Ministry of the Interior clarified on Tuesday that the price of the Cuban passport requested within the island remains at 2,500 pesos, following the circulation on social media of information regarding a supposed increase in the fee.
"It is false that an increase in the price of the standard Cuban passport requested in the country has been implemented," affirmed the DIIE in an informative note published on Facebook.
The agency specified that the fee for the issuance of the document "remains at 2,500 pesos in national currency, in accordance with the provisions established by the Ministry of Finance and Prices."
Confusion arose after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published Resolution 37/2026 on September 24, signed by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, which establishes a new consular fee schedule starting October 1.
These new prices correspond to procedures carried out at Cuban consulates and diplomatic offices abroad and do not alter the cost of the passport requested within Cuba.
With the new fees, the passport for those over 16 years old will cost 200 dollars or euros abroad and will be valid for ten years. For those under 16 years old, the price will be 160 dollars or euros, with a validity of five years, while the provisional passport will cost 120 dollars or euros.
Resolution 37/2026 repeals Resolution 116 of October 15, 2025, which established a fee of 120 dollars for the issuance of passports abroad.
The DIIE reminded that residents in Cuba can request the document in person at the MININT Processing Offices or through the government platform "Sovereignty", which allows for the process to be completed and paid via Transfermóvil or EnZona.
The agency assured that "any updates regarding taxes on identity and travel documents, certifications, or others issued by the Ministry of the Interior will be communicated in a timely manner through official channels."
The new consular fee includes additional increases for those processing procedures outside of Cuba. Among them, it sets the total cost of renouncing Cuban citizenship at 1,000 dollars or euros: 500 for submitting the application and another 500 for its approval.
