The Miami International Airport (MIA) once again showcased one of its most unique teams on its social media: the Miami Hound Machine, a therapy dog program that roams the terminals to accompany passengers and help reduce stress during their travels.

"Our #MiamiHoundMachine is on patrol," the airport wrote in a recent Facebook post, showcasing several of these animals interacting with travelers within the premises.

Dogs participate as volunteers alongside their owners and are part of an official passenger assistance program.

According to the Miami International Airport itself, all canine members are certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and have at least six months of experience.

His mission is simple: to provide companionship, calm, and a positive distraction to travelers who may feel anxious or exhausted due to the waits, connections, delays, and other usual stresses of a busy airport.

The Miami Hound Machine is typically deployed during the busiest periods, from Thursday to Monday and in the most crowded areas of MIA.

The schedules and locations where the dogs appear are announced through the airport's social media with the hashtag #MIAmiHoundMachine.

Univision had previously shown how these dogs interact with passengers and help make the passage through the airport more bearable.

Specialized organizations such as Heel 2 Heal Therapy Dogs also include Miami International Airport among the venues where therapy dogs participate, in an environment characterized by noise, constant movement, and the passage of thousands of people.

The initiative is part of a set of services that MIA aims to provide to enhance the comfort of passengers' experience.

Among them are a yoga room before the security checks, indoor and outdoor pet areas, and the MIAmamas breastfeeding rooms.

The airport also has several areas specifically designated for animals. There are outdoor spaces near the parking lots and terminals, as well as four indoor spaces after the security checkpoints, located near gates D34, F7, and G11, and in the connector between concourses H and J.

MIA also keeps open the possibility of incorporating new members into the program through its volunteer system, provided that the dogs and their companions meet the established requirements.

For many travelers, the encounter may last only a few minutes, but that is exactly the idea behind the Miami Hound Machine: to turn a tense wait into a moment of calm with a few gentle strokes.

The initiative is not new at Miami International Airport. Back in 2018, MIA launched a therapy dog program to assist passengers with stress, following a practice that was already being used in dozens of airports across the United States.

The Miami Hound Machine is also part of a broader strategy by the airport to make the travel experience more comfortable for passengers.

In recent months, MIA opened private rooms for sleeping, resting, and showering during layovers, an option designed especially for passengers with long connections.

Also, launched a holographic assistant with artificial intelligence to guide travelers within the terminal, as part of the technological improvements and customer service enhancements implemented at the airport.
