China provided Cuba with a donation of 80,000 bicycle spare parts, with the stated purpose of alleviating the mobility difficulties faced by the population amid the deep transportation crisis on the Island.

The delivery took place on Wednesday, October 14, during a ceremony led by the Chinese ambassador in Havana, Hua Xin, as reported by the Chinese Embassy in Cuba in a statement published this Thursday.

The donation had been previously announced by the Chinese Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries during a visit to Cuba to participate in the activities commemorating the centenary of the birth of the dictator Fidel Castro.

According to the diplomat, the assistance aims to help address the challenges that Cubans face daily in their movements.

The delivery takes place in a country where there is a fuel shortage, the deterioration of the buses and the reduction of public transport routes have made daily mobility one of the greatest challenges for the population.

In this context, bicycles represent an alternative for those who need to commute to work, study, or address their daily needs without relying on a transportation service that is becoming increasingly limited.

The Embassy's statement does not specify what types of parts were delivered, how many bicycles could be repaired, or how the spare parts will be distributed. It also does not identify the provinces, institutions, or workshops that will receive them.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from Cuban institutions, including officials from the Ministry of Industries and organizations related to the friendship between Cuba and China.

Ambassador Hua Xin reiterated during the event Beijing's support for Havana and assured that his country will continue to provide assistance within its capabilities.

For their part, the Cuban representatives expressed their gratitude for the donation and reaffirmed their willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

China has sent additional donations for Cuban transportation

The delivery of bicycle parts adds to previous Chinese cooperation projects aimed at addressing the deterioration of transportation in Cuba.

In 2025, China donated components for the repair of 100 buses in the public transport system of Havana.

That donation included tires, batteries, electrical systems, and suspension systems, among other resources necessary for rehabilitating vehicles that were out of service.
