Eduardo Antonio, “El Divo de Placetas,” received the “Special Recognition for Latin Excellence” on Wednesday during the sixth edition of the Hispanic Celebrities Awards 2026, held at the EB Hotel Miami.
The award was announced by Fernando Delgado, the Dominican influencer, who introduced it to the audience with words that summarized his journey: “Once while working at Univisión, Sábado Gigante, Don Francisco told him, 'there's a diva in Mexico, but we need a diva from Cuba, and today I baptize you as The Diva of Cuba, from Placetas to the world. With over 18 telenovelas, it is my honor to present this recognition to the only diva of Miami, from Placetas, from Cuba to the world, Eduardo Antonio, The Diva of Placetas.”
The singer, born in Placetas, Villa Clara, dedicated the award to his life partner and his late mother: "I dedicate this award to my producer husband, Roy García... and to my mom in heaven."
For the artist, recognition holds a special significance: as he stated during the gala, this is his third award in this competition. "It's the third prize, and I am very proud," he said.
On the red carpet, Eduardo Antonio arrived with a look that did not go unnoticed and with his philosophy intact: "One must laugh, one must innovate, one must be brave, one must tell the world that an artist is neither better nor worse, but different. The artist sets the standard, you understand? Makes the difference."
When asked about the current moment for the Hispanic community, the artist delivered a direct message: "We have to keep being strong, we have to keep being authentic, legitimate, unique, brave, united, because that's the only way we can achieve it."
The gala, organized by JBR Entertainment, brought together Hispanic figures from entertainment, journalism, television, and business. The highest honor of the night was awarded to the Dominican salsa artist José Alberto “El Canario”, recognized for his 50 years in the artistic field.
Among the other honorees were Carolina Mejía, the mayor of the National District of the Dominican Republic, recognized as "Impact Woman in Latin America," and journalist Dany Alcántara, awarded as "New Leader in Communication Media in the Dominican Republic." The team from Univisión's La Voz de la Mañana also received a Hispanic Celebrities Award during the evening.
Eduardo Antonio, who in May 2026 left La Casa de los Famosos 6 on Telemundo after 77 days in the reality show, continues to receive accolades for his career. In October 2025, he was awarded as "LGBTQI+ Icon" for his visibility and contribution to that community.
