The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on October 29, 2026, the recall of approximately 338,800 electric heaters from the DREO brand due to a defect that may cause overheating and fires.

The appliances were sold in Costco stores across the country and through various e-commerce platforms. According to the official CPSC notice, the manufacturer has received 17 reports of heaters catching fire. Three of those incidents resulted in property damage, and one caused a burn on a person's hand.

The recall also includes about 36,300 units sold in Canada, an additional figure that is not part of the 338,800 counted in the United States. The announced solution for affected consumers is a free replacement of the equipment.

Which DREO heaters are included in the recall?

The alert is limited to certain units of the DR-HSH015 model, also known as the Whole-Room Heater 715, manufactured between April 2025 and January 2026. This does not mean that all heaters or all DREO products are affected.

The device is a black ceramic electric heater, featuring the DREO brand on the front, a remote control, and approximate dimensions of 11.5 inches wide by 13 inches tall.

To verify if a unit is included, you need to check the label located on the bottom of the heater and look for two pieces of information:

  • Model: DR-HSH015.
  • Manufacturing date: a code in the format year/month (YYYY/MM) between 2025/04 and 2026/01, both inclusive.

The label also contains the serial number, which is necessary for processing the registration. If the model or date does not match, that unit is not included in this specific recall. In the case of an illegible label or uncertainties regarding identification, the consumer should contact DREO directly.

Where were they sold and how much did they cost?

The affected heaters were sold between September 2025 and October 2026 at prices ranging from 70 to 110 dollars. In addition to Costco's physical stores, they were available online at Costco.com, Dreo.com, BestBuy.com, Kohls.com, Lowes.com, QVC.com, HomeDepot.com, and B2BRenew.com.

Therefore, the alert is not limited to individuals who purchased the heater directly from Costco: those who acquired it through any of these other channels should also check the model and the manufacturing date.

What to do if you have one of these heaters: how to request a replacement

The authorities recommend to stop using the device immediately and unplug it, even if it has been functioning without issues so far. It should not be turned on again while the withdrawal process is being arranged.

DREO has enabled an official form to request a free replacement. The procedure requires identifying the heater using the information on the label and following the instructions of the recall program.

The manufacturer requests photographs that allow for verification of the model, date, and serial number, as well as proof of the equipment's decommissioning. The instructions include writing the word "Recall" and a five-digit destruction code on the label, in addition to cutting the power cord. Before handling the cord, the device must be completely unplugged; the consumer should first consult the official procedure and follow the DREO instructions.

It is not necessary to keep the purchase receipt: the company confirms that participation in the program is allowed as long as the heater is an affected unit and the necessary information is provided for verification.

Once the request has been reviewed and approved, DREO will arrange for the shipment of the replacement product. The company mentions an estimated delivery time of about ten business days after shipment, but clarifies that this may vary depending on the address and the carrier; it is not a guaranteed timeframe from the moment of registration.

Official phone and channels of DREO

Those needing assistance to verify the model or process the replacement can contact DREO through the following channels:

The CPSC identified this recall with the number 27-054. The agency and the manufacturer insist that the affected devices should not continue to be used, even if they do not yet show visible defects.

This alert adds to other recalls of household items reported during 2026. CiberCuba previously reported on the recall of electric kettles sold at Costco due to burn risks and, more recently, on external batteries sold on Amazon recalled due to fire risks.
