Pinar del Río catcher Lorenzo Quintana was the big attraction of the night at Corpus Christi Hooks, Double-A branch of the Houston Astros, hitting three home runs and driving in six runs. The tough hitter did not believe in the rival pitching and extended his streak of hitting games to seven.
Quintana's improvement, after a slow and off-pace start, has been brutal. The Hooks' number 43 averages .333, with five homers and 15 RBIs in the last 10 games.
The Cuban left the island in 2015 and could not sign immediately but It took him a couple of years to get his contract. which made it impossible for him to reach the minor leagues with the usual rhythm and his great reputation as a hitter. Come the month of July, he seems to have gained the necessary stability to begin to rise at the minor league level.
The time for him is still young. Along the way, he became the third player in the history of the Double-A team to hit three home runs in a game; Domingo Santana and JD Davis had done it before.
