Mexico deports another 77 Cuban migrants involved in the Tapachula riot

Another 77 Cuban migrants were deported to Havana this Friday by Mexican immigration authorities. Around 5 in the morning they were transferred to the Tapachula airport, Chiapas, to begin repatriation.

The National Migration Institute assures that the Cubans expelled today from their country were involved in the riots that occurred yesterday at the Siglo XXI Immigration Station in Tapachula, state of Chiapas, which already caused the deportation of a group of 93 Cubans.

Immigration authorities assure that hundreds more Cubans will be repatriated tomorrow, according to the local newspaperQuadratin.

The citizens returned to Cuba entered Mexico irregularly, according to the information released.

Mexico has deported nearly 500 Cubansas a result of a migration cooperation agreement signed by the governments of both countries.

Cuba has announced that a meeting between officials from the two countries will take place in Havana on May 10 to discuss immigration issues.

Currently thousands of Cubans remain waiting for regularization at the Mexican borders to be able to continue their journey and request political asylum in the United States.

At the Siglo XXI Immigration Station, the largest migrant detention center in Mexico, migrants are held inDeplorable conditions. Last weekAbout 500 Cubans escaped from these facilities because of aconfrontation with Hondurans.
