The trial of political prisoner Luis Robles, the young man from the cartel, is concluded for sentencing

The trial ofLuis Robles Elizástigui, the young Cuban imprisoned for displaying a poster against repression in Cuba, ended this Thursday around noon andThe sentence will be announced in 15 days.

Landys Fernández Elizástigui, brother of Robles, is prevented from entering the oral hearing held in the Municipal Court of Marianao, in Havana, transmission toCyberCuba what his mother, the only one authorized to witness the judicial process, told him.

“My mother told me that the work of the defense was excellent. The lawyer proved that Luis had not committed any crime, but the Prosecutor's Office remained determined that Luis was inciting people to rebel against the revolution."said the young man.

Robles, just turned 29, is accused of the alleged crimes of "enemy propaganda" and "resistance," andfaces a tax request of six years of deprivation of liberty.

About his mother, Landys said that“She came out a little affected [from the trial], she came home, took a pill and went to bed to rest”. The brother of the political prisoner reported a strong police presence around the Criminal Chamber of the Court.

“Not only was Luis's trial held, they held several trials and there were many family members and police outside.”, he detailed.

The priestKenny Fernandez Delgado, who accompanied Robles' family stationed at the exit of the Court, also announced on his networks that the oral hearing of the trial had ended, and that only one family member per accused was allowed in the courtroom, in this case, the mother de Robles, whom he saw“quite hurt”upon leaving the trial.

Robles was arrested on December 4, 2020 while he was carrying out a peaceful protest alone on San Rafael Boulevard in Havana, displaying a sign demanding the release of the rapper.Denis Solis and the end of repression in Cuba.

Their demonstration took place after the raid on the headquarters of theSan Isidro Movement, on November 26 of that year, and the sit-in of hundreds of artists and activists in front of the Ministry of Culture in protest of the mistreatment of the San Isidro barracks.

Declared a prisoner of conscience by the NGO Prisoners Defenders in January 2021, Robles has suffered repeated isolation in punishment cells, humiliation and violence in these12 months in prison, and at least four changes in measure have been denied.

An intense campaign for his release has been carried out by civil society and organizations defending fundamental freedoms such as the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights, Cubalex,Human Rights Watch andInternational Amnesty.

Likewise, the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of the United Nations Human Rights Council described his arrest as arbitrary and urged the Cuban regime to release him.
