They arrest more than 14 Cuban migrants in Mexico who were traveling hidden in a truck

A total of 87 migrants from nine countries, at least 14 of them Cubans, were detained on Tuesday night while they were traveling hidden in a truck through the state of Chipas, as revealed by the National Migration Institute (INM) in acommunicated.

The vehicle was detected on the highway between the city of Tapachula and Huehuetán and in addition to Cuba, the migrants came from the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Bangladesh, Honduras, El Salvador, Uruguay, China and Guatemala.

"When carrying out the inspection of the unit, at a verification point on said highway, the foreign migrants were located, who could not prove their regular stay in Mexican territory. All of them were wearing a colored plastic bracelet to be identified," detailed the INM. it's a statement.

Of the total migrants intercepted, 46 were adults traveling alone. The remaining 41 migrants were women, men and minors who made up 14 family units.

Of the 46 adult migrants detained:14 are from Cuba; 11 from Honduras; eight from the Dominican Republic; six from Ecuador; four from El Salvador and three from Bangladesh.

The statement did not detail how many of the 14 families (41 migrants) were Cubans., although he specified that the majority of them were of Ecuadorian nationality, followed by Honduran, Salvadoran, Cuban, Uruguayan, Guatemalan and Chinese.

The National Migration Institute specified that the adults were taken to the facilities of that entity "to begin the corresponding administrative procedure," and that "the family units were accompanied to a shelter of the entity, where they will remain under the guardianship of the System for the Integral development of the family".

After being detained by the authorities, the driver of the vehicle and his companion fled the scene, the statement concluded.

According toofficial figures released in the middle of this month by the Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), A total of 18,083 Cubans arrived by land and sea to the United States. only in October. This is the highest figure since December of last year.

On November 14, another 43 Cubans who were in an irregular situation in Mexico were returned.

Cuba is experiencing an unprecedented wave of migration. It is estimated that in 2022 approximately 4% of the Cuban population left the country in order to settle outside national borders.
