A passenger train collided on Thursday night with a fuel tanker truck in the municipality of Minas, Camagüey, resulting in the partial derailment of the locomotive and three people injured

The accident occurred around 9:20 p.m. on October 9th, at kilometer 31.3 of the railway branch that connects Camagüey with Nuevitas, when locomotive 38141 of train Extra 585 collided with a tanker truck from the company Cupet that crossed at the level crossing, confirmed on his Facebook profile by the Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila.

The injured - the train's engineer assistant, the truck driver, and his companion - were taken to the provincial hospital in Camagüey, where they remain out of danger, Rodríguez added.

The train, which had departed from the Camagüey station at 5:40 p.m. with five cars and dozens of passengers, was scheduled to arrive in Nuevitas at 8:40 p.m.

After the collision, the passengers were evacuated to their destination on two buses from local entities.

According to the Minister of Transportation, authorities from the Communist Party, the Government, the Ministry of the Interior, Civil Defense, and the Ferrocarriles Centro Este company immediately went to the scene of the incident, along with teams from SIUM and rescue services.

Rail transit in the area remains suspended while efforts are underway to restore it.

A locomotive was dispatched from Camagüey to assist in the recovery efforts.

The minister expressed regret over the accident and reiterated the call for drivers to "pay proper attention to driving their vehicles, especially at railroad crossings," in a context where accidents due to recklessness continue to be common on the island.

In August, a passenger train coming from Havana bound for Pinar del Río collided with a rental car in which four people were traveling, at the intersection of Rafael Peña street, in the municipality of San Cristóbal.

The incident occurred when the vehicle crossed the railway line at a crossing without stopping, which led to the collision.

A total of five people were injured, three of whom were hospitalized, following the derailment of the Guantánamo–Havana train that occurred on August 6th on the outskirts of the city of Matanzas.

A modern car sustained significant damage, after being struck on July 24 by a train in an area known as Maidique, in the province of Ciego de Ávila, although the two occupants of the vehicle emerged unscathed from the collision.

During the day itself, a private car of the Hyundai brand collided with the train that operates the Baraguá-Ciego de Ávila route, with no reported victims.

In early June, the university train in Santa Clara derailed with no injuries reported and no damage to the railway infrastructure.

On May 27, at 9:45 p.m., there was a derailment of extra train #16 that was covering the Holguín-Havana route, at kilometer 522.6 of the central line, near the commercial access El Cárnico, in Camagüey.

The accident caused a generator van to overturn and two passenger cars to go off the road, resulting in 18 people injured.
