Maritime navigation in the Batabanó Gulf has been suspended due to worsening weather conditions

The state entity announced that maritime navigation is canceled starting at 00:00 hours on this 11th of November, due to the worsening hydrometeorological conditions in the bay, which would impact safety during the voyage and docking at the ports of Batabanó, in the province of Mayabeque, and Nueva Gerona and Cayo Largo del Sur, in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.

“The measure will remain in place until the weather conditions improve,” emphasized the AMC in a statement published this Monday.

He added that they will continue to monitor "the evolution of this situation" and will notify the resumption of navigation in the area "as soon as the hydrometeorological conditions improve."

The Forecast Center of the Meteorological Institute (INSMET) of Cuba has warned that the second cold front of the current 2025-2026 winter season will be arriving in western Cuba during the morning of this Monday, causing a change in weather; meanwhile, it will reach the central region by late afternoon or in the early hours of the night.

According to the forecast, minimum temperatures will range from 17 to 20 degrees Celsius in the western and central parts of the country, while in the east they will reach between 20 and 23 °C. During the afternoon, maximum temperatures will be between 20-23 °C in the west and central regions, and between 24-27 °C in the eastern area.

INSMET forecasts strong tides on the northwestern coast, with minor flooding in low-lying areas, including the Malecón in Havana. Additionally, wave activity is expected on the central and eastern northern coasts, which will increase to tides starting in the morning. It also reported calm waves on the southern coast of eastern Cuba, with wave activity along the rest of the southern coast.

The winds will blow from the north to the northeast, with speeds ranging between 20 and 35 kilometers per hour, and will reach 40 km/h in areas of the northwestern and central coast, with higher gusts. Meanwhile, in the eastern region, they will be variable and weak, and by late morning, they will have a direction from the north to the northeast at speeds between 10 and 25 km/h, up to 30 km/h along the northern coast, with higher gusts.
