The young Cuban Daniela Peña Rodríguez, living in the United States, went viral on TikTok after responding with grace and pride to an offensive comment about her decision to emigrate.
In a video shared on Facebook, the young woman showed the comment she received from a user who wrote to her: “You should have stayed in Cuba instead of coming to dance in the Go gos like all of you do and the guys hustling for...”
Instead of engaging in a discussion, Daniela chose to respond with facts. Instead of words, she recorded a video showcasing her daily routine as an Amazon driver and delivery person, wearing her uniform and carrying packages throughout her workday.
“So clear…?”, she wrote alongside the video, accompanied by hashtags such as #contentcreator, #Amazon, #driver, and #Delivery.
The clip reached over 160,000 views in just a few days and generated a flood of comments filled with support and admiration.
“I don’t know who you are, but just in case no one has told you, you’re doing well. God never lets His children down”, a user wrote to her.
“Give it your all, little one, step by step you will go far. Here, any honest work is valuable”, commented another Cuban living in the U.S.
“This is how to respond, my respects. And even if someone danced, it is also their right”, commented a user.
Many Cubans praised Daniela's attitude and criticized the mindset of those who generalize or belittle women who emigrate in search of a better life.
“The best thing you did was to remain silent through hard work. That is dignity”, wrote a user, while another added: “You chose the long path, but the one of decency and effort”.
Daniela, a young mother and legal resident in the U.S. and content creator, has previously shared her story of resilience on her social media, including her definitive departure from Cuba after attempting to leave by raft with her husband and friends.
Her story reflects the determination of many Cubans who, rather than giving up, work hard to get ahead in a new country.
In a context where prejudice and attacks on social media are common, the Cuban earned the respect of hundreds for her calmness and example.
A lesson in humility and pride for those who believe there is only one way to succeed away from Cuba.
