The Cuban content creator Yenly L Padrón, known on social media as @yenly_l_padron, recently posted a video in which she delivers a strong message to Cubans living in the United States who often complain about life in exile.
While demonstrating the step-by-step process of a chicken soup and homemade rolls recipe, Yenly takes the opportunity to reflect on gratitude and effort.
In her speech, the influencer criticizes the attitude of those who “live in Miami complaining about everything,” reminding them that the real hardships are on the island.
"Cubans living here in the United States, those who are always complaining about everything, about how work is exhausting, how money is never enough, how life is tough, let me tell you something: life is tough in Cuba," he stated.
In a firm and emotional tone, the young woman describes the hardships faced by Cuban families on a daily basis.
"It is hard to hear a child's stomach growl with hunger and have nothing to offer. It is hard to see a mother cry because her baby has a fever and there is no medicine. It is hard to go 20 hours without electricity, without water, without gas, without hope."
Yenly contrasts that reality with the opportunities offered by the United States, reminding us that freedom and hard work are privileges that should not be taken for granted.
"You're in a country where there are opportunities, where if you work, you progress, where you can study, grow, have your own house, your car, your business... and yet you complain," says the creator.
"You complain because you've forgotten what it means to live without freedom, you've forgotten what it feels like to be afraid to speak, you've forgotten what it's like to look your parents in the eyes and see their resignation."
The message also appeals to gratitude and the pride of being Cuban, even when far from home.
"Living in the United States is a privilege, not a punishment. This country owes you nothing. It has opened its doors to you, and now it’s up to you to earn the opportunities that are being offered."
In the final part of the video, Yenly invites her fellow countrymen to appreciate sacrifice and their roots.
“While you complain, there are those who would give their lives to be where you are. So stop complaining and start being grateful, because when you forget the sacrifice, you also forget your roots. And a Cuban without roots is a soul without a homeland.”
The video has generated hundreds of reactions among Cubans both on and off the island, many of whom expressed gratitude for the message and agreed that "sometimes it's important to remember where we come from."
