The driver of a BAW truck is in critical condition following an accident that occurred early Saturday morning on the highway in Santiago de Cuba, about 5 to 10 kilometers before the San Luis junction.

According to the information from the group "ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES por más experiencia y menos víctimas!", approximately at 4:00 am, the vehicle collided with a bus from Ómnibus Nacionales that was covering the Cienfuegos–Guantánamo route (shift/operation 2938).

The internet user Pedro Domínguez, who shared the news, specified that it was not the bus driver's fault, but rather that the driver of the pickup fell asleep and crashed into them.

According to the information released, the driver of the van is the "most serious" person among those involved and has three liver injuries, an internal hemorrhage associated with those injuries, and a "shattered" knee.

A video posted by the reporter Yosmany Mayeta shows the extent of the accident and authorities at the scene.

In comments on Facebook, users mentioned the dangerousness of the San Luis–Palma stretch, referring to the fact that accidents tend to occur on that road in December.

Others attributed part of the risk to exhaustion (“they don’t sleep well, they don’t rest enough”) and to possible traffic violations, without any official details provided in the material regarding the causes of the collision.

Another traffic accident occurred this week on the central Trocha street in Santiago de Cuba, leaving two young people injured after the motorcycle they were riding was struck by a rental car.

A tragic accident occurred on December 10, on the road to Puerto Padre, before reaching Becerra, in the province of Las Tunas, and resulted in the death of the driver of a school bus, according to reports from users on social media.

Traffic accidents in Cuba are often attributed to the lack of maintenance of road infrastructure, the outdated state of the vehicle fleet, and human errors such as non-compliance with traffic regulations or negligent driving. Human factors are responsible for 91% of accidents, according to official reports.
