Five adults and three minors injured in an accident between a car and a horse-drawn carriage in Guantánamo

A traffic accident that occurred on Saturday afternoon in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur, Guantánamo, resulted in eight people injured, including minors, according to information confirmed by communicator Carlos Pérez on Facebook.

The accident occurred around 5:30 PM on the road known as Loma del Quimbuelo, located in the popular council of Caujerí.

The incident involved a private car and an animal-drawn vehicle (volanta) that was carrying several passengers.

According to updated data, nine passengers were in both vehicles, of which eight were injured. All reside in the municipality itself.

The affected individuals are five adults and three minors, who have sustained moderate injuries that, according to the medical report, do not pose a risk to their lives.

Cause of the accident

Eyewitnesses stated that the accident was caused by an improper overtaking maneuver executed by the driver of the car, which led to a collision with one of the tires of the wagon and subsequently resulted in both vehicles overturning.

However, the authorities are keeping the investigation open to officially clarify the causes of the incident.

Names and details of the injured

According to the report, forces from the Ministry of Interior (MININT) and the Integrated Medical Emergency System (SIUM) arrived at the scene to manage the situation and assist the injured.

Initially, everyone was taken to the municipal polyclinic for immediate care and later referred to other healthcare facilities.

The adults were referred to the Dr. Agostinho Neto General Teaching Hospital, while the minors were admitted to the Pedro Agustín Pérez Pediatric Hospital, where they remain under observation.
