Once again it is confirmed that the fears of Cuban migrants regarding violence and corruption of authorities in northern Mexico They are not unfounded.

Five Cubans were victims this June of a kidnapping in Ciudad Juárez with the support of the Mexican Federal Police, reported The newspaper.

Apparently, criminal gangs in the city are aware that the Cubans have relatives in the United States and trust that the relatives will pay the ransom, as happened in this case.

The migrants are currently hiding without going out for fear of running into their attackers again. The Mexican press has respected the anonymity of Cubans to avoid putting them at risk.

The case came to light after a complaint was filed with the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH).

“In the complaint of the Cubans, with folio number 61717/2019, sealed yesterday by the CNDH Reporting Office in the capital of the country, they say that since their arrival in Ciudad Juárez the nightmare began,” can be read in the medium cited.

The Cubans recounted in the complaint how the events occurred. According to the document, when boarding a taxi at the Bus Station, as soon as they arrived in Ciudad Juárez, they were intercepted by a Federal Police van.

One of the two agents asked them about their country of origin. They responded that they were Cubans and let them advance.

Right after, they saw the police flag down another white “Suburban-type” truck. The vehicle had dark windows and was in front of them.

A block later, the white van cut them off. Two men got out with guns and forced them into the vehicle, after ordering them to get out of the taxi. They threatened to kill them if they tried to escape, while they were transported while crouching.

They were put through a gate into a tiny, dirty room where there were bloody clothes.

After three days of being kidnapped, the relatives paid 3,000 dollars for each one, according to what the attackers themselves informed them, and they were released under threats. They assured them that they would be watched and warned them not to report the facts.

They even told them that they had killed other people because their relatives had not paid.

The kidnappers have been described by the Cuban migrants in the complaint. One was defined as a young man of about 18 years old, “very thin with a shaved head, no beard or mustache, approximately 1.80 tall and with tattoos of skulls and crosses on his right hand,” according to the aforementioned media. The other would be 20 years old, tall, thin, with a shaved head and with similar tattoos on his right hand.

This Monday, a group of Cubans returned to this same city by the United States to wait for their asylum process spoke with the same local newspaper and They confessed that they feared for their lives. They said they did not want to look for work because of fear of violence.
