Luis Robles beaten and in a punishment cell at the Combinado del Este

HeCuban political prisoner, Luis Robles Elizástegui, was beaten by prison authorities and transferred to apunishment cell in the Combinado del Este prison in Havana.

According to telephone statements from an inmate on condition of anonymity to the independent mediaCubanetOn April 23, Robles was confronted by an officer identified as Lieutenant Ramoncito, who handcuffed him and hit him on the head.

According to the source, “the young man would have been complaining about the incessant mistreatment and intolerable conditions of which the prisoners in that prison facility are victims,” which motivated the officer's attacks.

The witness to the incident added that “several prison guards joined in the beating, after whichLuis Robles Elizástegui "He was confined in a punishment cell."

Cubanet He adds that “the reason for the retaliation was confirmed by the brother of the prisoner of conscience, to whom Luis Robles himself described the events in a telephone conversation held that same day.”

Robles, declared as a political prisoner by the Prisoners Defender organization, He has been confined in punishment cells in that prison on several occasions, and although his brother, Landy Fernández Elizástigui, said last March that he was in good health, he also noted that he was emotionally weakened.

Luis Robles was imprisoned in December 2020 for protesting alone on San Rafael Boulevard, in Havana, with a sign asking forend of repression and the freedom of the rapperDenis Solis.

After a year in prison he was brought to trial andaccused of the crimes of disobedience and enemy propaganda.

At the end of last March, the Popular Provincial Court of Havanasentenced to five years in prison, a sentence against which his lawyer filed an appeal in recent days for breach of form, because "does not conform in the least to the law".
