The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, sent a congratulatory message to Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón for his reelection as head of the Government of Spain.
“We congratulate @sanchezcastejon on his re-election as head of the Spanish Government. We ratify Cuba's willingness to continue deepening bilateral relations between both peoples and governments“wrote the ruler on the social network X.
Sánchez, leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE), remains in La Moncloa after winning the investiture session last Thursday, November 16 in the Congress of Deputies, with 179 votes in favor and 171 against.
For his victory, the re-elected president had the support of seven political formations, divided into Sumar, PNV, Bildu, Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC), Junts, Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) and Canarian Coalition.
Last Friday, November 17, Sánchez went to swear his position before the king of Spain Felipe VI, in the midst of an environment of social tension due to the amnesty pact with the Catalan independentists that led to the retention of the socialist leader in La Moncloa.
In recent weeks hundreds of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Spain's main cities to protest against the new amnesty law. This Saturday there was a massive demonstration in Plaza Cibeles and surrounding places in Madrid.
The organizers of the demonstrations counted around a million people. Meanwhile, the Government Delegation gave a figure of 170,000 attendees, they reported. Spanish local media.
Pedro Sánchez visited last time Havana between November 22 and 23, 2018. Their stay was given in advance to Kings Felipe VI and Doña Letizia.
Following the massive protests that occurred in several cities on the island in July 2021, The socialist admitted in a television interview that “Cuba is not a democracy”.
“It is evident that Cuba is not a democracy… It is not,” admitted the president of the Spanish government when asked if he believed that Cuba was a dictatorship.
