A Cuban cyclist suffered several injuries after not seeing a pothole on a street in Holguín, which is dark due to thesavings campaign implemented by the Cuban government due to the serious electricity crisis that the country is experiencing.

The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m., in front of the Pediatric Hospital of that city. “The circuit had power, but not a single light on the avenue was on, not even because it was the entrance to a hospital, completely dark,” reported user Raúl Fonseca Ramírez, who came by bicycle between eight and 10 km, in the group of Facebook“BUS & TRUCK ACCIDENTS for more experience and fewer victims!”.

Fonseca Ramírez pointed out that in addition to the lack of visibility due to the prevailing darkness, there were also two electric motorcycles with halogen lights from the manufacturer, plus others that made them fashionable and that this prevented him from seeing a deep hole in the artery through which he was traveling.

The affected person shared photos of the pothole, which he ironically described as“beautiful springboard of death”, which also left significant bruises on his elbows and other parts of his body.

“What will happen to the poor motorist who falls here?, and a light just 4 or 5 meters from the passport to death, halogen, but of course, disconnected, all turned off, you have to save at all costs, no matter what happens ”was his final reflection.

In the comments section, Internet users told similar stories that happened to them with that bump.

“That sewer is without a doubt the deepest in the entire city. My respect to whoever fell there. I tried it once, thank you that it was on a good motorcycle and nothing happened,” said one user.

Another person commented that he had fallen into a similar hole a few days ago, “in the middle of a blessed blackout too,” he added.

The complainant himself added that the repair of the street was done for the visit of Pope Francis to Holguín in 2015 and asserted that in the conditions in which it is currently found, "those who have to ensure 'road safety', if That position still exists, they are blind,” because in “an entrance to a Pediatric Hospital, how many mothers or fathers on a motorcycle could this happen to them?”

In a recent meeting of the Council of Ministers it was reported that the crisis in the country has led in the last year toextreme restriction measures on energy use, resulting in thedisconnection of 74% of public lighting andprolonged blackouts throughout Cuba.

Vicente de la O Levy, Minister of Energy and Mines, highlighted the effectiveness of last year's restrictions, which resulted in a7% decrease in national electricity consumption.

Among the measures that he claims "worked", was the total or partial suspension of 120,788 services during peak hours, the paralysis of non-essential climate equipment, the readjustment of work schedules for more than 68,000 workers and the aforementioned cutback in public lighting.

Dark cities are a danger for Cubans. Traffic accidents are increasing, especially for pedestrians and cyclists. The streets also become opportune scenarios for the increase in crime, as has been reported on numerous occasions.

Despite all these effects of the measures on Cuban social dynamics, the Prime Minister,Manuel Marrero, pointed out that there is an urgency to reinforce savings actions due to the adversities that the country faces due to the lack of fuel.

Preciselyde la O Levy promised, this Sunday, that the situation created by the acute energy crisis will improve “in the future”.

Without specifying the margin of improvement or the time frame for its forecast, the minister responsible for the country's electrical infrastructure, used his fortune-telling skills to prophesy a change in the terrible situation suffered by the Cuban population.
