Drugs in Cuba: New images come to light of alleged effects of "the chemical"

For several months now, Cubans have intensified their complaints about the sale of drugs on the street in the eyes of the police.

In recent days, several videos have gone viral on social networks showing young Cubans allegedly underthe effects of “the chemical”, a dangerous synthetic drug whose components are exactly unknown and whose consumption has skyrocketed especially among Cuban youth in recent months.

One of these videos shows two young people in a rural area on the edge of a river lying on the ground, with their bodies rigid and suffering from something similar to convulsions.

The images show friends of these young people amazed by the powerful reaction to the drug: some laughing and others trying to help their friends as they can in the face of the painful circumstance.

Activist Yanko Mesa, who shared the images, warned that“Drugs are not new in Cuba”, but added that for decades the government has tried to hide that reality from the world because “they were the owners of the information and had control of it, they manipulated it and misinformed public opinion as they wanted.”

In the comments section, some Internet users thought that, although it is true, On the other hand, the proliferation of drugs and the growing consumption in recent months among the population throughout the country is undeniable., especially among young people.

Another video published by Paparazzi Cubano shows another young man at the time when he was allegedly under the effects of the powerful drug. In the images you can see a man crawling on the ground with a rigid body and a grimace on his mouth.

“Zombie effects of ‘kimico’: the synthetic drug in Cuba that is suspected of being manufactured on the same island or in China”, Alain Paparazzi noted alongside the images.

In that case, however, it is heard that several of the witnesses have doubts about whether a drug is the effect of the macabre scene.

Some indicate that it may be that he had a "death" and there are some who affirm that it could be a seizure due to an illness.

The Cuban doctor living in Spain, Lucio Enríquez Nodarse, gave his opinion on the images.

“First of all, as a doctor, I can think that it could indeed be the effects of a drug, but we cannot rule out that it is a neurological discharge (seizure), as a result of any other disease, for example epilepsy; I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt to the dictatorship; "who has already admitted the use of 'KIMICO' among Cuban youth," he wrote.

But what is "KÍMICO"? From a scientific point of view, what substance or substances does it contain? And who better to give this answer than the Cuban dictatorship itself, which is in any case the one who has the means in Cuba to define what substance or substances produce this effect, the scientific community, the health sector should be interested in this aspect! and know it for better assistance in these cases! But does the dictatorship prefer to hide this information in order to continue denying the use of drugs in Cuba?

“They treat the case in a banal way as if it were an exorcism, that person CAN DIE! DIE! And there I don't see any protocol being activated at all, a person pouring water on his face with a glass as if to finish drowning him, the people around him don't even help at all despite seeing how the young man is self-harming. In a normal country an ambulance is called and this person is treated urgently, for a serious condition, because his life is in danger, and there people see him as if he were a dog wallowing! Where have we reached as a society?” he concluded.

These two are not the first videos on the subject, last week alreadyOther images went viral showing two other young people under the alleged effects of "the chemical."

In that case the young people had also lost control over their bodies.

"And why do they like to be like this?" a woman asked while in the distance another young man was seen making strange gestures in front of a wall.

For several months now, Cubans have intensified their complaints about the sale of drugs on the street in the eyes of the police, especially following the murder of a two-year-old girl inLuyanó last year at the hands of his stepfather, who was allegedly drugged.

The chemical, they claim, "drives youth crazy" and "costs less than sugar," according to a report by the independent media.Cubanet.

It is a substance mixed with several products thatsold at low prices. The base of this new narcotic is cannabis and it is smoked in cigarettes as if it were simple marijuana.

However, consumers are not sure about its other components, one consumer toldCubanet that the drug is prepared with epilepsy pills, formaldehyde and anesthesia for animals.

"As I have seen, they put the grass in a tray and put the chemicals in there to dry everything later," he said.

Several consumers told the aforementioned media that: "It is like a burst of energy that fills my entire body with cramps. There is a moment when I only feel my heart beating and my ears getting clogged. Walking quickly causes many of them, but sometimes "I tend to go slow."

Cuban authorities have been concerned about the increase in the use of this drug in the country.

Colonel Juan Carlos Poey, Head of the anti-drug division of the Technical Investigations Department, indicated that between October 26 and November 18 of last year, 12 kilos of narcotics and drugs were seized.193 people were arrested for drug trafficking.
