The news portal Cubanet published a gallery of images on Facebook showing the terrible conditions of the medical facility and how the sick live there, tied to chairs and stretchers.
"This is how they have patients at the René Vallejo Ortiz Psychiatric Hospital of Camagüey. Due to the shortage of medications to sedate them, they are applying electroshock many patients and keep them tied up," the publication highlights.
According to this medium, the sick sleep in beds without mattresses and walk around the hallways unkempt, dirty and barefoot.
Likewise, it states that the bathrooms do not have basic hygiene conditions and shows photographs of dirty toilets and hallways and sinks without the minimum requirements that a health facility requires.
The reality shown by Cubanet contrasts with the official version of the Hospital.
Just two weeks ago, on April 20, the René Vallejo Ortiz hospital commemorated its 52nd anniversary, and the regime press He stated that it was "a pioneering institution in mental health care in Cuba, marking more than half a century of commitment to the psychological well-being of its patients."
Frank Estenoz Pérez, director of the center, explained that they have 280 beds and where "the group strives to adapt their services to individual needs."
Last year several complaints emerged about poor hospitalization conditions and mistreatment of patients with mental disorders in hospitals such as Amalia Simoni, also in Camagüey.
Precisely in that center, the patients were being mistreated by the staff who cared for them, as revealed in a shocking video published by the Cuban Observatory for Human Rights (OCDH).
