A motorist lost their life this Tuesday in a tragic traffic accident on the road connecting Remedios to Camajuaní, near the town of Taguayabón, in the Cuban province of Villa Clara.

The man, who according to witnesses was an elderly individual, was riding a scooter when he was struck by a white car that was trying to overtake another vehicle in a reckless maneuver, as noted in the group on Facebook "Revolico Remedios".

They reported that the crash was fatal and the man, originally from Camajuani, died at the scene, mentioned the independent media La Tijera.

Local authorities and forensics police quickly arrived at the scene to conduct the necessary investigations and clarify the circumstances of the incident.

"The drivers are driving like crazy, it's complete madness," expressed a witness on social media.

“They took the life of that young man, such a good person, with a wonderful family. How sad,” another added.

As a result of the accident, there was great concern among the local residents, who expressed themselves on social media calling for more control over the road safety on that highway, which is often the scene of accidents due to speeding and dangerous maneuvers by drivers.

According to data from the National Road Safety Commission, there were 7,507 traffic accidents last year, which is a 12% decrease compared to the 2023 report of 8,556.

Additionally, deaths decreased by 13% (634), and the number of injured was 6,613, which is a 4% reduction compared to the accidents that occurred the previous year.

Authorities insist that the main causes are driver violations, followed by the poor condition of roads due to lack of maintenance and the age of the vehicle fleet, which averages between 40 and 70 years.
