A 41-year-old Cuban, identified as Alejandro Hernández, appeared in court this Tuesday after being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, in a domestic violence incident that took place last Sunday in Florida.
According to the report from AméricaTeVé, Hernández had a heated argument with his partner, which quickly escalated into physical aggression. During the altercation, the accused allegedly struck the victim and repeatedly stabbed her in the back with a small knife. Furthermore, he dragged her by pulling her hair, even managing to rip out several strands.
The woman was immediately transferred to a hospital, where she received medical attention for multiple injuries to her back, as well as possible fractures in her face and arm.
The authorities have not yet provided further details regarding the victim's current condition or any additional charges that Hernández may face.
This case is currently ongoing, and it is expected that the court will determine the legal status of the accused in the coming days.
In recent months, Florida has been the scene of several domestic violence cases with tragic outcomes. One of the most recent incidents occurred a week ago when a man repeatedly stabbed his ex-partner in a restaurant at the Miami International Mall before taking his own life. The victim, a 20-year-old Venezuelan woman, was transported in critical condition to the Kendall Regional Medical Center. Authorities have urged the community to report cases of domestic violence to prevent similar tragedies.
A few days ago, another Cuban was involved in an altercation involving a firearm in Miami. The incident, captured on video and shared on social media, shows an armed man being threatened with a knife before shooting his attacker. The victim, a 32-year-old man, was admitted to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm.
In December, the Miami-Dade police had arrested Dunier Aguilar García, a 43-year-old Cuban accused of domestic violence and robbery against his former partner. According to reports, the dispute began when the victim attempted to leave the residence they both shared. Aguilar García physically assaulted her, demanded her jewelry, and snatched her phone. He was arrested shortly after and faces charges of armed robbery and domestic violence assault.
In October, a Cuban identified as Pedro Núñez was arrested in Kendall for attempted murder. Núñez fired several times at his ex-wife during an argument, leaving her in critical condition. Believing he had killed her, he fled the scene and confessed the crime to his father before turning himself in to the Hialeah police. The woman underwent several surgeries and remained hospitalized in serious condition.
In the previous August, a homicide-suicide left three children orphaned in Miami-Dade. Raiza Cajuso, 39, was killed by her partner, Marcos Antonio González, after a heated argument. González took his own life after committing the crime. The couple's eldest daughter was the one who alerted the police about the tragedy.
