The official journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso and a small team from Canal Caribe traveled to China this Saturday to attend a seminar on the application and management of high-definition television technologies for developing countries.

According to Alonso himself, as he stated on his social networks, the invitation was made by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy in Cuba.

So far, it is unknown who the other three seminarians accompanying Alonso are and the duration of the trip.

In the post where she celebrated her trip, dozens of people wondered what the point of updating in technology would be if the quality of the news did not improve.

"I hope our television improves, not only in terms of technology but also in programming and providing quick, transparent, and critical information," stated one individual.

Before restricting comments, some internet users managed to criticize the trip and the seminar that was intended for "developing countries."

"For developing countries. That sounds familiar, that sounds familiar," someone said sarcastically.

Two years ago, Canal Caribe, which broadcasts national news daily, unveiled a new studio with a "modern" set featuring a touchscreen, which was seized upon by hundreds of Cubans who questioned the change in scenery when the discourse remains the same.

The news channel moved to Studio 11 of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), where the programs Al Mediodía, la Mesa Redonda, and the Cultural News had been broadcast for years.

Now "shows seven fundamental spaces: the main news set, a touch screen, and a mega LED screen (especially for cultural, sports, and weather segments), the location for news rounds, an area for interviews, and another for the Cultural News".

However, internet users wondered what change that so-called "modernization" would bring when the type of news being reported, censorship, and information manipulation remained the same.

Many messages questioned the spending of money on such technology when the people do not have access to decent food.
