Adrián García, a 25-year-old man, appeared in court this Monday after being charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting his father inside their home in Miami the night before Father's Day.

Authorities confirmed that bail was denied, so he remains in custody at the Turner Guilford Knight (TGK) Correctional Center, as reported by the local press.

The incident

According to the arrest report, the shooting occurred on Saturday night at the family home, located on block 200 of Northwest 48th Court.

Miami police officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a supposed "accidental discharge."

However, the evidence found and the testimonies point to a more complex scenario.

A witness -identified as the mother of the accused- testified that just moments before the shot, she was arguing with the victim, her husband, over matters of infidelity.

After leaving the bedroom, she heard a loud blast.

Upon returning, he found the man covered in blood. While trying to help him, he saw Adrián pick up a weapon from the ground and leave the house.

During moments of chaos, while the victim was being transported in an ambulance, the mother shouted to the injured man to say that her son had not shot him, according to the police report.

Evidence at the scene

During the investigation, the police found a spent bullet casing in front of García's bedroom, as well as a pool of blood in the adjacent hallway.

Similar ammunition to that of the casing found was also discovered in his room.

García was located shortly thereafter on West Flagler Street and Northwest 60th Avenue, where he was arrested with a gun in his possession.

After being transferred to the Domestic Violence unit of the police department, his Miranda rights were read to him.

García invoked his right to remain silent.

Critical condition of the father

The victim, identified as Ramón García, was transported in critical condition to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

He suffers a fracture in the cervical spine and bleeding in the neck, injuries that the doctors consider serious.

Neighbors reported to the media that they heard several gunshots and saw how the man was taken out of the house with a bloodied head.

Some described him as a quiet and hardworking person, who spent much of his time away from home due to his job as a truck driver.

Adrián García is facing a charge of attempted murder with a firearm, a serious crime.

After his first appearance before the judge this Monday, it was determined that bail will not be granted, due to the seriousness of the case and the nature of the evidence presented.

As of the closing of this report, the nationality of the detained individual has not been disclosed.
