Marisa, a 61-year-old Cuban woman, was brutally murdered this Tuesday by her partner, a 63-year-old Spanish man who later attempted to take his own life, Spanish media reported.
The events took place in the municipality of Getafe, south of Madrid, when neighbors alerted the police after hearing the victim's cries for help, who shouted: "Help, help, they want to kill me!"
According to official reports, the perpetrator, identified as Florindo, dragged Marisa to a shed in the backyard of the home they shared with others and there stabbed her three times in the chest. Despite the quick arrival of emergency services, they were unable to do anything to save her life.
The National Police agents had to lower themselves from a neighbor's terrace to access the place where the man had barricaded himself with a knife in hand.
Due to his refusal to surrender, the officers used a taser to subdue and arrest him. The assailant is hospitalized in critical condition at the 12 de Octubre Hospital in Madrid.
Marisa and Florindo had been in a relationship for over 20 years, according to family testimonies. There were no previous reports of gender-based violence, although close friends confirmed that the man had been suffering from depression and had previously attempted suicide.
The Government Delegation Against Gender Violence of Spain confirmed the crime as a new case of male violence, raising the total to 16 women murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far in 2025, and to 1,310 since official records began in 2003.
The daughter and brother of Marisa are in a state of shock, while the neighbors in the area are still trying to come to terms with the horror experienced this morning. “She was screaming that they wanted to kill her, and suddenly, there was no more sound,” recounted a visibly affected resident.
This femicide occurs less than six months after the first case of gender-based violence recorded in Spain this year, also involving a Cuban victim, Karilenia, a mother of three children, who was murdered in January by her partner in Langreo, Asturias.
In that case, as with Marisa, there were no prior reports, and the crime was also committed with a knife following a domestic argument.
