The condition of Osvaldo Martínez Ramos, the 14-year-old reported in critical condition after the serious accident that occurred last Sunday in Ciego de Ávila, has improved, although his situation remains delicate.

This has been detailed on social media recently by Guillermo Rodríguez Sánchez, who remains in direct contact with the child's family.

"Rafa is breathing with the help of oxygen, but using his own lungs. He has several fractures throughout his body which have already been treated by orthopedic surgeons; all joints and bones have been placed back in position after several surgeries,” he explained.

Rodríguez Sánchez described what the doctors have achieved with the teenager so far as an "authentic feat," stating that he arrived at the hospital as "a human puzzle."

However, he specified that the head is the area of greatest complexity due to the trauma sustained, although the surgical interventions by neurosurgeons at the Morón hospital have been classified as successful.

However, the child was able to be extubated, and even ingests food through the mouth with assistance, and yesterday “he squeezed one of the hands, a tremendously positive sign.”

However, despite those "hopeful advances," Guillermo Rodríguez clarified that the Avilan teenager "is still reported as critical, although stable," and that his life is still in danger.

The aforementioned source took the opportunity to express gratitude for the immense solidarity shown by many people who have taken an interest in the case and who have been and continue to be willing to offer their support.

He expressed gratitude to everyone who has donated blood for Rafael, as well as “to those who have visited the hospital and brought snacks for his mother, offered words of comfort, and even to followers of our profiles who are already in touch with his father in the U.S. in case financial support is needed should any specific supplies need to be sent.”

"What the doctors' fingers have done with Rafael has only one name; they are guided with almost perfect precision by the hand of God," he concluded.

The latest official medical report regarding the case was released on the morning of July 8th.
